本剧记述了伟大的革命先行者孙中山先生从1895年第一次武装起义到1925年北上病逝于北京近三十年的革命生涯在20集的篇幅里集中描写了孙中山先生为推翻统治中国几千年的君主专制创立民国11次举行武装起义3次建立革命政权；一生奔走倡导民主反对独裁组织护国战争护法战争；不畏帝国主义列强和反对军阀的威胁发动北伐讨伐叛军陈炯明以其愈挫愈奋的斗志两次改组国民党实现了从旧民主主义到新民主主义的转变；最后北上议政于1925年3月12日病故于北京铁狮子胡同五号
